Bayview
This is a stunning view from one of the narrow walkways that wind along the steep hillside between small buildings. On the volcanic Island of Santorini the buildings are often carved out of the soft pumice rock.
Gythio detail
This coastal town on the southern Peloponnese was historically the main port of Sparta. It was also an important port during the Greek War of Independence. Now it is a hub for tourists who gather there for ferries, seafood and entertainment.
Symi detail
Symi is a picturesque island near Rhodes. Preservation codes protect the tall elegant Neo-classical era structures built with the wealth from ship building and sponge diving.
Meteora
The Holy Monastery of Saint Rousanou was founded around 1560 in Meteora, Central Greece. Until recent times access to the buildings was by a rope basket. The monks lowered and raised people and supplies using a pulley system.
Pandanasa
The Monastery of Our Lady of Pandanassa (The Queen of all) has a church of mixed architecture featuring exterior porticos and a bell tower.
The monastery is in the Mystras region close to Sparta.
Paros chapel
The white walls and blue dome are typical of an island church. They are built by a few families for daily devotions and a traveling priest performs baptisms or weddings. They are usually decorated with icons and lit by candles.
Minoan Urn I
